Rule Changes and League Updates 2025-26
2025-2026 is a Ringette Canada rule change year. Check out this brief YouTube video that explains the changes that apply to Canadian Ringette.
The Calgary Ringette League (CRL) and Ringette Alberta (RAB) have also made changes that apply to NW Ringette teams:
U10 Step 2
U10 Step 2 will now be divided into two sessions:
- Session 1: October-mid-January – half ice game play only
- Session 2: mid-January-March (up to 8 weeks) – full ice game play (adapted)
U12 A Goalies
In U12A, goalies are now allowed to play 100%. The B and C division will remain as is.
U16 and U19
U16 and U19 groups will be playing 4 x 11 minute quarters. This will still remain a 75-minute ice slot.
RAMP Reporting
The Calgary Ringette League is looking to have a stronger presence in educating members on how to use RAMP properly. As such, there will be disciplinary actions added to improper reporting this year.
The first offence will be a verbal warning from the CRL Div Coordinator. The second offence will be a loss of two points for the applicable team, third offence will be a loss of two points for the applicable team and a $250.00 fine to the association.
Disciplinary Actions
If a player receives three majors/unsportsmanlike penalties, this will trigger a one game automatic suspension. When the player reaches five majors/unsportsmanlike penalties, an in-person discipline hearing will be held and the committee will decide on the amount of games to be served. If the player reaches seven majors/unsportsmanlike penalties then the player will receive an automatic five games suspension. In Session 3, if this happens to a player whose team is in provincials, the suspension would be handed to RAB to fulfill.
In person hearings - These will be scheduled the 15th and the last Thursday of each month. No player can play any games (CRL, Exhibition, tournament) until the hearing has been completed.
Excess penalty minutes at U14-U19
During the course of the season, the Chinook Ringette League Div Coordinators will check for players that are consistently exhibiting poor sportsmanship and committing infractions on a consistent basis.
All players' penalty minutes will be checked quarterly. Chinook Ringette League will not look at random games but at consecutive games, based on the season being broken up into four quarters (number of games per quarter is based on the total number of games in the season).
Once a player has reached the threshold as listed below, they will then follow the guidelines listed. Note that this process will start once the player has met the threshold.
Guidelines are as follows:
- A player that has accumulated a total number of penalty minutes that meets or exceeds a threshold based on the following formula will receive a warning email.
- Average of four PIM/Game, after the team has played 25% (1 quarter) of the games in the season.
- A player that has accumulated a total number of penalty minutes that meets or exceeds a threshold based on the following formula will receive a one (1) game automatic suspension.
- Average of four PIM/Game (for all games played), after the team has played 50% (2 quarters) of the games in the season.
- A player that has accumulated a total number of penalty minutes that meets or exceeds a threshold based on the following formula will be suspended for three (3) games.
- Average of 4 PIM/game (for all games played), after the team has played 75% (3 quarters) of the games in the season.
Example: A player averages two mins/game in quarter one, no warning will be issued. After quarter 2, averages four mins/game they will be issued a warning as listed below. Further disciplinary actions will be based on the guidelines listed.
Email notifications of warnings or suspensions will be sent to the coach/manager/parent of the team. Supplementary discipline may also be imposed at any time following a game sheet review.
Rankings for Session 3
Currently we use all 16 games for rankings. We will be using Session 2 games only. This also allows the CRL to create pools within the divisions to allow for equitable games. In this situation the bottom pool can not rank higher than the higher pool in Session 3 rankings.
New Mic’d up Pilot Program
This season, Ringette Calgary is piloting Mic’d Up - where certain officials will be wearing recording devices that are devised to pick up on language that can be considered abusive, offensive or harassing in nature. These devices are audio only. The audio device downloads the language that was used and creates a post-game summary. For more information about the pilot program, visit Elements Athletics.
